"'The Queen of Soul' is a lofty moniker. Such designations are typically fairly empty. Aretha Franklin has been that for decades, but she’s always been more. She’s been our sister and our auntie. She’s been the sound of block parties and barbershops and the sound of Carnegie Hall and the Fillmore. She’s a lightning bolt through music history that ties together so many strands of black experience and sound. You almost have to view music through the lens of before her and after her. And she did it all as she reflected us. The grand and the gutsy. A little bit of jazz with a little bit of blues. And all soul,” writes Stereo Williams. Sound on for Aretha’s greatest hits. Hayley, You’re doing it. Holy shit, it’s all actually happening, and it couldn’t be happening to a more hardworking, kind, talented, and deserving person. In the time we’ve known each other I’ve seen you perform for 5 people under a tent at the Fullerton Artwalk, witnessed you release an EP you recorded in your garage, and now you just played THE STAPLES CENTER with an arena full of people who knew all of the words to your songs. The fact that you are constantly touring, playing sold out shows, directing your own music videos, playing in a STADIUM WITH TAYLOR FREAKING SWIFT, giving quality time to your fans, and you STILL make time for your loved ones...you are rare and you are magic. What a beautiful human and artist you are. The world is lucky to have you as a role model. It was a beautiful sight seeing phone flashlights waving in the air alongside pride flags in the crowd as you electrified that stage last night. Keep shining, keep climbing. 💕All our love 💕

Blog #8: My Life In Coffee Shops If it wasn't for having actual #goals in life I'd probably spend most of my time in coffee shops. I only started drinking coffee at around age 19 after having dated a serious Italian obsessed with his #Nespresso machine. I had no choice but to be converted. I do love #coffee, but, in my view, that's not what coffee shops are about. To me they have always been a place of inspiration, regardless of what I'm #drinking. (Growing up, my grandfather used to ask me to make him cups of "hot water" - not #tea or coffee - just hot water. I thought it was funny until I became a starving artist in my 20s and couldn't afford to keep spending money on coffee/tea several times a week, so I'd sneak #teabags into my purse and just ask for #hotwater at #Starbucks... :-P One day I lost the need for teabags altogether... Something about just having a hot #beverage in your hand, regardless of what it is, is immensely #calming and #satisfying.) Whatever I'm #sipping, whether I'm catching up with friends, #writing, #daydreaming, making #bigplans... Coffee shops are a place where life stops for a #moment, a place for #reflection, to #settle into oneself, and let the #creative juices flow. I'd much rather work from #coffeeshops than from home - it makes me feel #purposeful, #productive. I enjoy the feeling of putting myself in a #calm place, surrounded by people happily immersed in their own worlds. The #chatter makes me #glow and makes my world seem a little more #colorful. (Something about that chatter! #Inspiring and #romantic in an #inexplicable way...) Coffee "culture" is... *Read the full blog via: https://www.samanthapreismusic.com/blog/8-my-life-in-coffee-shops
